Nicole Yukiko Sekiya

Role: Gertrude

Nicole holds a diploma in Theatre Arts Performance from Mount Royal University in Calgary, AB and is now in the intermediate year of the BFA here at UBC. She’s played everything from a nun to a prostitute to a Trojan princess in her academic theatre career and is delighted to add Müller’s version of Gertrude to that list.

Why she’s excited about Hamletmachine:
Nicole’s love for theatre was ignited as an eleven-year-old in a summer Shakespeare camp where she played Gertrude in a 20-minute, family-friendly adaptation where she didn’t really understand what was going on, but thought it was fun. Fast-forward about twelve years to the Gertrude of Hamletmachine and Nicole still doesn’t really understand what is going on, but continues to love every minute of the process. This adventure has been stretching her imagination, skill and body to the limits, but with the support of Ines, the production team and the cast, she’s sure that it’s going to be a worth every bit of uncertainty.
